So you have bought yourself a beautiful candle, and of course you want to get the most out of it. Here are some tips to help you.
HOW TO LOOK AFTER YOUR CANDLES
TRIM THE WICK
Trimming the candle wick is an essential part of candle care, and should be done before every burn. Trim your wick to about 3mm. We recommend you use a candle wick trimmer as it makes an ideal clean cut, however, scissors will also work.
Trim the wick to this size for every subsequent burn. This will help your candle burn a bit slower and longer, and avoid those unsightly burnt blobs you get on the ends.
SET THE SCENE
Burn in a safe environment. Find the perfect surface for burning that is stable, even, non-flammable, and heat resistant. Never leave near anything flammable. Your candle is best placed away from draughts too.
THE FIRST BURN
Let your first burn last 2-3 hours and wait until the liquified, pooling wax reaches the edge of the glass. If you don't, you run the risk of burning straight down the centre of the candle, called tunnelling, and shortening the life of your candle.
KEEP IT CLEAN & CENTERED
You want to avoid any dirt and debris from going in your molten wax. Don't leave burnt matches or cut of wicks in there. If you don't trim your wick (as mentioned above) the burnt wick will fall off and create an unpleasant smell.
Sometimes wicks can move off centre. After you blow your candle out, let it cool and check the wick. If needed, gently guide it back towards the centre. If it gets too close to the glass, it can cause the vessel to heat up and crack. Plus, the straighter the wick, the longer the burn time!
GIVE IT A REST
We know you love your candle, and the smell is just so delicious, but burning for a maximum 2-3hrs at a time is recommended. This will help minimise any damage to your candle. You should also ALWAYS be present when you have a candle burning so bare that in mind before lighting.
Once there's less than 1/4" of wax left in the glass, it's time to let go.
It is recommended not to burn any candle all the way to the bottom of the vessel. The wick may slide and burn too close to the glass, with risk of cracking.
BE SAFE
Keep burning candles out of reach of children and pets.
Do not leave candles burning with no one in the room.
Extinguish all candles before you go to sleep.
Do not touch your candle until it has fully cooled
